Extention of Outlets
In this section I will be talking about the history of music video and how it all began. I will be discussing how it all started. You could say that the first form of music video was the talkie, talkies are a bit like jukeboxes except for the fact that they play music videos instead of playing just the music. They were very innovative for their time and they were mainly seen at places where the youths would hang out which was at bowling alleys or cafes. The 1930's had a massive impact for music video. There was alot of musicals because it was during the war people needed something to make themselves happy and music was the only medium to do so. Musicals were a great success and often raked more money in then the usual hollywood film. In the 1950's/60's there was alot of experimentation with music video as around that time america seemed like a free and peacefull place to be. Drugs were taken quite frequently and bands like The Beatles and The Velevet Underground were experimenting with visual aesthetics by combining them together with the music. Then in the 1970's came Top of The Pops. At top of the pops sometimes bands were not available to play live so they would get them to do a performace on a music video as Top Of The Pops mainly focused on what was popular in the charts that week and as some of the people were not there as they were on tour they would use the music video to still promote them. The 1980's saw MTV come to light. MTV was the first channel to show just music video's non stop for 24 hours. As cable developed there were loads of different music channels specifically for each genre so now people could choose what they wanted to watch. In the 90's alternative rock boom loads of alternative rock bands were making music videos and it was very much in fashion. In the 00's however as the internet and youtube came to light music video died down. You can now watch music videos online and it's more easy to access the tunes you want to.
